Hello! Welcome to the newest section of my website - my blog. I'm planning to update twice a week, writing about the lifestyle of being a genre fiction writer, as well as reviews of short stories.
Why both these things? Well, because a lot of exciting things have happened to me in my professional life in the last month or two, and I thought it could be exciting to write about them - and because I love short stories (you can read my thoughts on them in detail here), and I want to showcase the best of the ones that I find, for other story-lovers to find.
So - a little bit about me, and where I am at time of writing. I'm a genre fiction writer. A lot of my stuff is supernatural, but I don't necessarily think it's out-and-out horror; at least, not all of it. I love writing short stories, ranging from Flash Fiction pieces all the way up to the heady heights of 3,000 words. I've been published in 3 countries, and just got my work accepted to the Great Jones Street app this week - which was incredibly exciting. Meg Pokrass, curator of GJS, has been wonderfully supportive, and it's been great to start this year off with a bang!
Last year, I started writing articles and personal essays, and this year, I've started writing book reviews for Unnerving Magazine. (Again, Eddie Generous, the editor of Unnerving, has been brilliant to work with!) I've fallen in love with reviewing, and I'm hoping to keep going with it into 2017, eventually turning it into a freelance side-gig. So, in-between writing my own fiction, the day job and being a mother to a beautiful 9 year old gecko, I'm working on building up my non-fiction CV.
And, most important of all, I love writing. I love working hard, I love being productive, and I love sending these tiny little stories that I've poured so much love into out across the world, and watching them spread their wings. It's the only thing I've ever been good at. It's the only thing I can see myself still doing at 70.
So that's me! I can't wait to get started on this new project. See you at the weekend, for the first ever Short Story Sunday!
